CALTECH EXPERT SEISMOLOGIST DR. LUCY JONES
Breaks Down How A Large Earthquake Will Impact Businesses in the San Gabriel Valley
For over 35 years, Dr. Lucy Jones has been one of the prominent public voices for earthquake resilience, conducting thousands of interviews with all kinds of media and appearing on most major news programs, including all national news broadcasts, all major cable news networks, as well as NPR , PBS, and numerous TV specials about earthquakes and disasters.
On Thursday, March 19th, the Industry Business Council Board of Directors welcomes expert seismologist, Dr. Lucy Jones, to share a history of earthquakes in Southern California and the potential impact on lives, property, and the economy that an earthquake can have on businesses in the San Gabriel Valley.
Dr. Jones will share the work that has been done to help businesses prepare for disaster, as well as why it’s imperative that each business owner and resident create a disaster recovery plan for their property. You will leave feeling prepared for any earthquake activity, small or large, and understand how taking proactive measures to be prepared can make a remarkable difference.
Dr. Jones is the founder of the Dr. Lucy Jones Center for Science and Society, with a mission to foster the understanding and application of scientific information in the creation of more resilient communities. She is the author of the book, The Big Ones, and is also a Research Associate at the Seismological Laboratory of Caltech, a post she has held since 1984. She has been active in earthquake studies for decades, furthering earthquake risk reduction through seismological research and integrated disaster scenarios.
